Adjusting the Calving service

Updated

Three settings determine when you are notified of a calving: when monitoring is activated, the duration from which a calving is considered long, and the sensitivity of the alerts.

Activation and triggering:

These settings are made in the Farm tab, on a computer as well as on a phone.

Setting Effect
Automatic activation If you deactivate it, you will have to activate monitoring manually for each animal, before each calving.
Number of days before the due date With automatic activation, defines when monitoring starts. An insemination must be recorded: it is used to calculate the due date according to the breed.
Long calving duration Determines from when the long calving alert is triggered. We recommend 90 minutes.

Alert sensitivity:

Sensitivity is set by animal category, in Settings then Calculations, on a computer only.

The medium sensitivity, set by default, is suitable for most farms. If, after a few calvings, the tool alerts you too often or not often enough, move the slider.

Slider Effect
To the left More sensitive: you detect more calvings, but you receive more alerts that turn out to be unfounded.
To the right Less sensitive: fewer unnecessary alerts, but some calvings may go unnoticed.

Values according to the collar version:

The trigger values depend on the version of the software installed on your collars.

Version 1.1.0 and earlier:

The same value applies to all animal categories.

Sensitivity All categories
Very sensitive 20
Sensitive 30
Medium 40
Low sensitivity 50
Very low sensitivity 60

Version 1.3.0 and later:

A distinction is made between dairy herds and suckler herds.

Sensitivity Dairy cows and dairy heifers Suckler cows and suckler heifers
Very sensitive 35 15
Sensitive 42.5 22.5
Medium 50 30
Low sensitivity 57.5 37.5
Very low sensitivity 65 45

What changes with the update
Since version 1.3.0, suckler animals trigger much earlier: at medium sensitivity, the value drops from 40 to 30. If you have a suckler herd and your alerts have behaved differently since an update, this is the explanation.
