Understanding the Location service
Sur cette page
The Location service shows your animals on the plan of your building. You can see at a glance where your herd is, and quickly find an animal to inseminate, monitor or treat.
This article contains the following sections:
- What you need to use the service
- Locating your herd
- Reading the plan
- Finding an animal
- Location accuracy
What you need to use the service:
- The Locationservice.
- Animals fitted with ear tags : the collar cannot be used to locate an animal on the plan.
- An Ear Tag Base and anchors installed according to the location rules, i.e. about one anchor per 100 m² of area to cover.
- The plan of your building, created in the app, with the position of each anchor.
Locating your herd:
The Herd location screen is available from your computer or phone. All the animals in the building are displayed on the plan, with no action on your part.
- Select animals to highlight them: a halo is added around their head. You can select 10 manually.
- The quick lists are the same as those on the dashboard, for example Heat – to inseminate or Calving – high probability.
- Tap an animal to display its information and open its record.
- If you have several buildings, swipe the plan on your phone to switch from one to another; on a computer, the plans are displayed one below the other.
Reading the plan:
| Display | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green cow head | Animal's last communication 5 minutes ago or less |
| Grey cow head | Last communication 6 to 30 minutes ago |
| Animal missing from the plan | No communication for more than 30 minutes, or animal outside the building |
A compass shows north and a scale is always displayed. Full-screen mode is available on computer and phone.
An animal just outside the building may remain visible. A margin of about 15 m around the outline is taken into account, so as not to lose an animal near a door or a passageway.
Finding an animal:
On your phone, from the animal list, a notification or the dashboard, choose Animal search. The app shows its last position on the plan, with the direction and distance between you.
When you are very close to the animal, the phone beeps and offers to switch to radar mode, which guides you to it via Bluetooth.
Location accuracy:
An animal's position is calculated from the anchors its ear tag can hear. Its accuracy therefore depends on the number of anchors, their layout and their condition.
- An anchor that is lying down or poorly attached degrades the position of all the animals around it, without triggering an alert.
- The position is updated each time the ear tag wakes up: a few minutes may separate two positions.
- The network audit checks that your installation can locate your animals: use it after installation and whenever a position seems inaccurate.
