About Mozaë Monitoring

Understanding the devices

Mozaë Monitoring relies on a sensor worn by each animal and a base installed in your building, which sends the measurements to the app over the Internet. Your farm is equipped either with collars or with ear tags: the two types of sensor cannot be used on the same farm.

This article contains the following sections:

  • Animal sensors
  • The services of each sensor

Animal sensors:

The collar sensor is worn around the animal's neck. It sends its measurements to the Collar Base, up to about 1.5 km in open field, and stores up to 10 days of measurements if the animal is out of range.

The ear tag sensor is worn on the animal's ear. It sends its measurements via the network of anchors installed in your building, with a range of about 100 m, and stores about 7 days of data. Its 7-character serial number (for example BO691UB) is written on the back of the tag.

The services of each sensor:

Service Collar Ear tag
Calving Yes No
Heat Yes Yes
Reproduction Management Yes Yes
Feeding Yes Yes
Husbandry Yes Yes
Health Yes Yes
Location No Yes

The two sensors differ on two points: the collar produces calving alerts, the ear tag makes it possible to locate the animal on the building plan.

A collar that stops communicating triggers an alert; an ear tag does not. With a range of about 100 m, it is common for an animal with an ear tag to be temporarily out of range: it sends its history when it comes back.

Devices installed in the building:

Device Role
Collar Base Receives the measurements from the collars and sends them over the Internet, via your router or its built-in SIM card
Ear Tag Base Receives the measurements from the ear tags and sends them over the Internet, using the 4G modem supplied
Anchors Relay messages from the ear tags to the Ear Tag Base; with the Location service, they make it possible to locate each animal
Environment sensor Measures the temperature and humidity of the building, from which the app calculates the temperature-humidity index (THI)

Finding your devices in the app:

  • Collars and ear tags are listed on the Devicesscreen, Animalstab.
  • Bases, anchors and environment sensors are listed on the Farmtab.
  • To remove a sensor from an animal, use the Dissociate action from the device list or from the animal list.
