What is the Heat service?

Updated

The Heat service identifies animals in heat by comparing each animal's behaviour with its own habits and those of its group. When the difference becomes significant, you receive an alert, which remains active for 36 hours.

This article contains the following sections:

  • Prerequisites
  • How detection works
  • The heat alert
  • When to inseminate
  • Adjusting the sensitivity

Prerequisites:

For the service to work:

  • the collar must be fitted and assigned to an animal;
  • heat mode must be active, which means that calving mode must be deactivated for this animal.

Allow 3 days before the first alerts
The collar needs this time to learn the animal's habits. Before then, no curve or alert is displayed.

How detection works:

Two elements are taken into account in the calculation: the animal's history and the activity of its group. Detection then adjusts itself according to the breed and condition of each animal.

Your groups determine the quality of the alerts
The groups in the app must correspond to your actual batches and contain at least 10 animals. A poorly made-up group directly impairs detection.

The heat alert:

Item Details
Trigger When the heat index exceeds the threshold set in your settings. This index is visible on the animal's curve.
Duration 36 hours
Incorrect alert You can invalidate it from the dashboard or from your notifications.

An invalidated alert removes the animal from the list of animals to watch and is not included in your reproduction indicators.

When to inseminate:

We recommend inseminating when two conditions are met:

  • you have received a To inseminate alert with a high probability;
  • the insemination window is in the green, that is, between 12 and 24 hours after detection.

The time shown in the notification corresponds to the start of the favourable period.

Adjusting the sensitivity:

Sensitivity is set by animal category, in Settings then Calculations, only from the computer version of the app. Details are explained in the article Adjusting the sensitivity of the Heat service.
