Installing the camera

Installing your camera

Updated

Good installation determines the image quality and signal reliability of your Mozaë camera. There are three models; all are powered through the network cable, via a power supply unit to be ordered separately.

This article contains the following sections:

  • The three camera models
  • Equipment supplied with the camera
  • Equipment to order separately
  • Mounting the camera
  • Connecting the mini-dome
  • First start-up
  • The signage requirement

Carry out the installation safely, particularly any work at height. We recommend using a qualified installer.

The three camera models:

  • The fixed camera has a wide angle and no motor. It is suitable for a defined area: a calving pen or an alleyway.
  • The mini-dome can be adjusted remotely and has a zoom and a microphone. It is a good compromise for covering several areas of a building.
  • The dome offers a powerful zoom and an infrared range of 100 metres, for large spaces.

Equipment supplied with the camera:

  • An I-beam bracket
  • A 2 m network cable, to connect the power supply unit to your internet source
  • A screw kit
  • A drilling template, for the fixed camera only
  • A wall bracket, for the mini-dome and the dome

Equipment to order separately:

  • The power supply unit, or a cabinet if you connect several cameras. The camera is powered exclusively through the network cable. The unit can also power your Mozaë base station.
  • The network cable between the camera and the unit, of a length suited to your building.
  • The junction box, of a suitable size, for the fixed camera and the dome.
  • The surge protection socket, optional but strongly recommended. It requires a third network cable of 2 m maximum.

Place the power supply unit near your internet source, for example your modem. Grouping the equipment in the same place simplifies installation and troubleshooting.

If your Mozaë base station is powered by the power supply unit, the power adapter supplied with the base station is no longer needed. Keep it as a spare part: it is often the first item replaced during troubleshooting.

Mounting the camera:

To install and connect the camera:

  1. Fix the camera with the screw kit supplied, to the ceiling, a post or an I-beam.
  2. For the fixed camera and the dome, fix the junction box next to the camera.
  3. Connect the camera's network cable to the PoE port of the power supply unit.
  4. Connect the green cable from the unit's LAN port to your internet source, for example a modem.
  5. Plug the unit into the mains power supply.

With a surge protection socket: plug the unit into the surge protection socket, which is itself connected to the mains. Connect the unit's green cable to the socket's OUT port, then another cable from the IN port to your internet source.

Connecting the mini-dome:

The mini-dome is not installed with a junction box: its cable length does not allow it. Make the connection inside the cable duct, which then acts as protection, then wrap the connection with waterproof tape to protect it from moisture.

To make the connection easier, remove the top cover of the mini-dome, make the connection, then refit the cover.

First start-up:

The camera can take up to one minute to start. On the dome and the mini-dome, the lens rotates during this phase: this is normal.

The signage requirement:

Any filmed area must be indicated by a visible sign, even if the camera is not used for security purposes. This legal requirement is your responsibility as the farm operator and also applies to areas used by your employees and contractors.
