Installing and connecting the Mozaë base station
Sur cette page
The Mozaë base station links your sensors to the app: it receives measurements by radio waves and transmits them via the internet. Its location and connection determine the range and reliability of the whole system.
This article contains the following sections:
- The base station equipment
- Connecting the base station
- Connecting the base station to the internet
- Choosing the location of the base station and the antenna
Carry out the installation safely, especially any work at height. We recommend using a qualified installer.
The base station equipment:
| Item | Role |
|---|---|
| The Mozaë base station | Receives measurements from the sensors and transmits them via the internet. |
| The radio antenna | Handles communication with the sensors. |
| The power supply unit | Plugs into an electrical socket and powers the base station via the network cable. |
| The network cable | Connects the power supply unit to the base station. |
Connecting the base station:
To connect the base station:
- Plug the power supply unit into an electrical socket.
- Connect the PoE port of the power supply unit to the base station with a network cable. The connection is made underneath the base station.
- Screw the cable gland around the cable.
The cable gland protects the base station from water ingress. A base station with a poorly tightened cable gland will eventually fail.
Connecting the base station to the internet:
Without the internet, the measurements from your sensors do not reach the app. There are three solutions:
| Solution | Connection | Base station location |
|---|---|---|
| Built-in SIM card | Nothing else to connect. The SIM card is supplied. | Must be outdoors, as high as possible, to pick up the mobile network. |
| External modem | A network cable connects the LAN port of the power supply unit to a port on the modem. You supply the SIM card. | Outdoors recommended. Indoors possible with a remote antenna. |
| Your internet router | Directly, with the same connection as a modem, or via a Wi-Fi bridge if the router is in another building: the transmitter on the router, the receiver on the base station. | Outdoors recommended. Indoors possible with a remote antenna. |
Choosing the location of the base station and the antenna:
Outdoors is recommended: this is where the base station picks up the sensors and the network best. Indoors is still possible with an external modem or your router, provided the antenna is mounted remotely.
- Mount the base station at least 50 cm from a wall or a beam, using a metal extension arm.
- Never place it under a roof; choose an open location.
- Mount the antenna at a height of at least 4 m.
- Place the antenna as close as possible to the animals wearing sensors, as its range is limited.
- If the base station is indoors and your animals go out to pasture, mount the antenna remotely, high up and outdoors.
A poorly located base station no longer picks up the sensors, even if they are working perfectly. This is the main reason why sensors appear silent.
